Kanchipuram

Kanchipuram is one of oldest town with more than 1000 temples. The city's historical monuments include the Kailasanathar Temple, The Vaikunta Perumal Temple and Ekambaranathar Temple. Also Ekambaranathar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva. It is significant to the Hindu sect of Saivism as one of the temples associated with the five elements, the Pancha Bhoota Stalas, and specifically the element of earth, or Prithvi. Kanchipuram is a traditional centre of silk weaving and handloom industries for producing Kanchipuram Sarees. The silk trade in Kanchipuram began when King Raja Raja Chola I (985–1014) invited weavers to migrate to Kanchi. In 2005, the Government of Tamil Nadu applied for Geographical Indication for Kanchipuram sarees. The Government of India recognized it as a Geographical indication officially since the year 2005-06.

About weaving

Now a days people are not interested in weaving which is done by our ancestors for long period of time. When people work in a MNC company, they thinks them self moreproud. And they never mind about their role, even though they get only cleaning work and drainage work. But, we are doing this weaving as a heritage work, generation after generation with lot of dignity and self respect.

Making of Silk

Silk worms are mainly grown in the state of Karnataka as the silk worm need less temperature to grow. Mulberry samplings fed to the silk worm and silk is obtained from the cocoons of the larvae of the mulberry silkworm. Then the empty cocoons are boiled and twisted in Kanchipuram. Dye is applied with help of palar river water. Since the dye is applied in palar river water, dye will not fade easily and will not harm the skin.

Why Silk?

Most of us don't know the reason behind wearing silk sarees on occasion of wedding and festival. We ask this reason to all our customers if they give correct answer we will gift them a silk saree. Many of the customers don't know the reason behind this and give them the answer after the purchase. Whatever is done by our Pre-descendants having a reason behind in it. The reason behind wearing silk cloths is, If the family wants to be good, the leader of the family need to be with good health. If the nation wants to be good, the leader of the nation need to be with good health. To keep the leader safe, basic requirements like food, shelter and cloths needs to at their best. For Food they had delicious (Arusuvai) food, for shelter they had palace, for cloths they have invented silk which will act as shield to protect from harm full rays of sun with help of siddhas. Even this silk protect us from radiation of mobile phones. It also act as antiseptic and it is believed that the reason for wearing silk in wedding is to keep groom and brides from evil eye.

Taking care of your silk saree

Mix shampoo or soap water with normal water (don't use hot water and detergent) in dub, dip the silk saree in the dub two time and wash with hand then dip again in the fresh water. Then let it to dryout in shadow place, do not dryout in sun light. And store the silk saree in a cotton towel and do not use any perfume items while storing (Do not store directly in box or almira). If you follow this washing method this will make your silk saree to stay good for long time.
